Dear Fellow Horse Caregiver, You know there can be and will be a lot of health problems when working with horses. Do you know that you can prevent a lot of problems of your horses legs, such as joint, ligament, tendon, muscle or horse hoof problems?
Are you spending hundreds, if not thousands of dollars trying to treat something that is hurting your horse only to find your horse still hurting and in pain? If you have, you need to know how to take care of the problems of horses legs and fix them.
Horses legs should be under eye all the time!
If you are serious about providing the best care for your horses legs then you must read on. In fact, this could be the most important letter you've ever read.
Hi. My name is Diane. I live in the beautiful Northern Rivers region in New South Wales. I ride horses for pleasure and have done so for all of my life. I grew up with horses and cattle on our property in Queensland and started riding when I was three years old. I started out riding ponies, but soon graduated to riding my father's stockhorses.
I had already been riding for 8 years, when, as an eleven year old, I bought my first pony with money that I had been saving. She was unbroken and very “flighty”. I broke her in myself and she was a fantastic friend and mentor.
As I said previously I ride horses for pleasure. I especially enjoy riding horses in the Australian bush where I can ride with friends and can see all sorts of wildlife including wallabies, kookaburras, bush turkeys, goannas and snakes. I strive to give my horses the best lives possible and also to keep their lives as natural as possible. I am fortunate in that I live on a property with plenty of room for my horses to wander freely with access to good pasture, clean water and plenty of shade.
The horses and ponies that I rode as a child and teenager were never shod. We never had any hoof problems with our horses and their feet were trimmed regularly but that was the only attention that was required. These horses were never rugged or fed any extra hay or supplements. This was not necessary as the native grasses (pastures) were suitable for the horses and were all that they required. They were used for mustering the cattle on the property or, during our free time. We children rode for pleasure. Obviously, we were aware that the better our horses were feeling, the more we could enjoy our riding and the better they could perform in their work on the property.
I am sure that once you have worked with horses, you can't live without them. This is certainly the case for me, and, I am sure, for every other horse lover.
Having moved to the Northern Rivers area of New South Wales, I soon became aware of problems facing horses in this area because of the high rainfall. Different kinds of problems occurred because of the wet and muddy conditions in the paddocks. This was something that I had never had problems with before, because the area in Queensland where I came from had a much drier climate. Here, in the Northern Rivers area, horses developed stone bruises because their feet were soft from being wet. Another problem was seedy toe with the moisture getting up into the actual hoof itself.
Prevention is very important with Horse Hoof Problems!
I became involved in training endurance horses while living in this area, riding horses at speed and for relatively long distances during training. I began to take an active interest, not only in training these high performance horses, but in their nutrition and also in the vital area of their feet. It soon became obvious that it was difficult to obtain clear and accurate information about horse hoof problems, hoof diseases and problems in other areas such as joints, ligaments and tendons.
As I was riding these horses every day, I soon became very attuned to how they were performing and discovered that I was easily able to determine if something was not quite right with a horse. It was important to be very aware of how the horse was feeling and whether there were any problems. Endurance rides can be 80 to 120 kilometres long, and speed is obviously very important, so it is obvious that, to perform well, the horse has to be in excellent condition. The old saying: “No foot, no horse” holds very true in endurance competitions because, if a horse even loses a shoe, it can stress the horse resulting in a raised heart beat which can be a major problem in a competition of this sort.
By talking to vets and farriers, it soon became obious that there are all kinds of horses with all sorts of problems. The area where I now live is very “horsey” with stockhorses, cutting horses, racehorses, endurance horses, pony club ponies, trail riding horses and almost anything else that you could think of.
In order to obtain more information, I began to try to educate myself in this area by asking questions of successful professionals such as vets, trainers and experienced horse owners and also by reading everything that I could find on this topic. My goal is to continue to research this very interesting and complex topic and hopefully to video vets and farriers at work as a picture, as the saying goes, is worth a thousand words.
Let's take one example.
Many years ago I bought an older horse, a gelding, a very lovely horse, like a teddy bear. He already had a problem with the suspensory ligament in his right hind, and some people told me that his career was over, because horses can't race with 'three' legs. It was all the time balancing on the edge with him: fall down or keep on 'rocking'. With concentrated daily care I could keep this hind leg in order.
Then his right front hoof cracked. The hoof crack was along so much of the back side of his hoof, in the heel section, that we couldn't patch it. Putting on a special shoe and pad, we could live with this problem too, and he even won some races in his 'old' days.
He was not any world champion, but a nice hobby horse, and he thanked me for my help by racing well. Isn't that the best thanks you can get for your work?
You can save yourself and your horse from many troubles
Now later, thinking about all this, I think I needed a book where I could find at least basic information about problems and what to do. It could have saved me so much time and also saved me and my horses from many mistakes.
So what I´ve done is exactlty that, I put together a book for you. This book will help you to avoid making common mistakes and perhaps help you to prevent common problems that happen to horses.
This book will help horses that may be already experiencing common problems like muscle loss, fetlock etc. and it will also help teach you how to prevent a lot of these problems from occuring before they start. All these solutions will help your horse feel better and healthier, and increase the lifespan of your horse.
This is what you can learn in the book:
If anything you've read so far has affected you, then you know you must get your copy of the ebook!
And in my research I have covered plenty of different things that can hurt your horse, like hoof diseases, and there are literally hundreds of tips, advice and information in the ebook that will improve not only the life of your horse, but the relationship between you and your horse as well!
Because, the more you work with your horse, handle him, the more you are shaping your horse to decent and calm behaviour. The horse needs to know his limits, but with time and the proper routine care this will come naturally. The horse will be more trustful, more relying on you the more he has daily routines.
The horse is feeling more safe when he "knows" what is going to happen. I call it programming. With the right programming you do not have to and should not have to punish your horse - you can urge it gently back towards better health for the horse and better habits for yourself when it comes to caring for your horse and horses legs.
There are a lot of people out there who do not take care of their horses properly.
My goal is to help as many horses as I can. Here is a part of an email I got from one of my customers:
